Singapore last post

Last entry for 2013 European adventure

Well it's been fun it our time is nearly over
Have met a lot of wonderful people from different countries and eaten different foods and grown and learnt a lot
It has been a challenge but a growing time and we are richer for it and when it all boils down you realise in some ways we are all the same underneath with the same needs and desires of course these vary but we are just us underneath
Looking forward to returning home to Oz --- back to home cooked meals and cooking and washing and beach walks and English speaking people and just home and cat and of course mum
So will sign off now and add a few photos

Almost my final post

We will be in Singapore tomorrow after a brief sojourn in Zurich
It is very cold here but hot in the hotel
Gone are our days in beloved Italy but we have vowed to return
I will practice my italian and hopefully in 2 years we can venture forth again
It has been fun and worth every minute of heartache and stress
Fabulous experience and I would recommend it to anyone seeking something new and exciting

Venice cruise and fantastic people we met with a bit of Tuscany thrown in

Been a while ...... Cruise Venice and Como

Sorry it has been so long since I have added to the blog
Internet was really expensive on the cruise and Venice had poor reception so no work could be done
We have been enjoying ourselves and had lots of adventures especially around Venice
Cruise
This was fantastic -a nice break after the rigours of travel
Lovely sea views, beautiful food and some relaxing.
We made some friends on board whom we hope to stay in touch with namely an Irish couple who live in Dublin and a Japanese guy who spoke no English .

Went to some I the resting ports especially Istanbul - fascinating culture with great contrasts in architecture and very diverse sights -photos tell all
Dubrovnik was great - spectacular coastline - best in the world I think so far
Now at Como
Oh I skipped Venice - loved it so nostalgic so photogenic so wonderful and mysterious.
We caught up with Robbies parents and had lunch together and a walk around back streets of Venice
Caught the ferry to murano burano and torcello
Really great and then got lost in Venice on way home in the rain !!!! Not too much fun and after 2 hours of roaming around and asking 7 times for directions finally found our flat n dorsoduro
Wow we're we glad and me thankful i wasn't on my own

Now we have left there and are in lake como
However our lovely weather has departed and. Out co e the winter woolies and thermals but this will not daunt us and tomorrow we are out on a boat trip to Bellaggio

Cooking course in Camuccia

Hi folks
Chris and I did our share of cooking today. We had a four course traditional Tuscan meal. We made pasta from scratch.We had crostini followed by soup and then 2 types,of pasta. By this stage I was getting full. Then a huge steak was revealed of which Chris had some. Note neither the cook myself or the interpreter could eat any more. Dessert followed which was very nice. It was an italian cream trifle type of dish which was very rich. We emerged about 3.30pm not too worse for wear and certainly richer for the experience.
After this we returned the hire car and came home to pack and bid our farewell to Tuscany .
We catch an early train tomorrow about 7am to go to florence  and then change trains for Venice where we board the cruise.

Hi folks
I thought I'd better add to my blog
We are having such fun it will be hard to leave Italy and if it wasn't for my lovely family and friends back home I would be tempted to live here.
Well we went to florence yesterday. And it is a great bustling city. Lots of youth attending university for art or language and some very fine amazing architecture. We saw the statue of David. Words cannot describe ones first glimpse of it. So tall and majestic.  Lots of streets bustling with life and shopping and all moving at a fast pace.
Nice long train ride home which you can admire the countryside and see lots of gardens and houses and also some poorer areas.

Anyway off to a cooking course today so that will be fun and I will have my Tuscan meal with you when we return home so get your stomaches  ready for some fine tuscan cuisine.  We also had a language class last night which was great. Church bells are ringing n the distance. It's early morning. There is so much to tell I will save it for home but  suffice to say we are enjoying ourselves and experiencing the highs and lows of life in another culture. Even so, overall it is great and we are looking fwd to the Venice leg of our journey.

Arrived in Italy!!!

Hi all
Managed to order a cappuccino and a glass of water in Italian - very proud of myself
As usual the airport process is an adventure be it tiring bit we managed to get a taxi bus to our hotel
Well,it was a hair raising drive
I felt like saying to the people on the road get out of the way there's a maniac driving this car
Anyway we are here in one piece at a lovely hotel called La Porta and all is well
Off to buy some dinner soon and walk around a bit before crashing for an early start tomorrow

Ireland is so lovely. At the moment I am looking out of the window to a view of mist covered mountains and beautiful guest house all in a traditional Irish style.
The people are very helpful and friendly
We are staying at Killarney and it relies heavily on the tourist trade and agriculture.
Trying to rally the strength to walk into town which is about 20 minutes so see how we go
Miss you all but lovely to be away

Billy Elliot

Hi there
Well last night we went to West  End and enjoyed a lovely Italian meal at Izzy with our wonderful friend sally who had just made the journey from France to London via the bullet train.
Sally is due to fly back to France today to begin her journey through Spain. A 900 km walk on her own.
Billy Elliot was fantastic, the cast were great and the play was amazing, the commitment to the roles was 100% and each person especially "billy" was incredible.
The theatre itself was beautiful and  you have to see it to get what i mean. It was callled "The Victoria Palace Theatre" and it has a gold ballerina on the top of it. I think it is one of the oldest theatres there.  It is  beautifully maintained with lots of plush red velvet carpet and seats  and gold everywhere with various sized chandeliers and classic design from an era long ago
Lots of people out on this late night very glad to finally hit the sack after a hectic  train trip back home on the underground
After a good nights sleep we feel much restored and are ready to head off to York by train. We are looking forward to leaving the hectic pace of London behind and seeing some of that lovely English countryside and then on to Ireland where I believe it will be a lot cooler

Finally raining in London

Well after the heat wave of the last few days it is finally raining in London
This is more like it I was beginning to wonder if I would ever need my Spencer's and skivvies
I think they may come out of the suitcase at last
Our legs are certainly getting stronger from all the walking we are doing
We have negotiated the underground several times and London is indeed huge
We went on a tour by night of London last night and are off to a show tonight at the west end - Billy  Elliot where we will meet up with Sally and share a meal

Lets just say London os an amazing city with so much to see and take in. So much history it is breath taking . This is a funny photo of Chris

Well today has been about familiarising ourselves with London
We have ventured into London by train and managed to find out which stop to get out at for our hop on hop off bus tour tomorrow.  Anyway the Heath is really nice a big huge system of lakes and do you know keats was born here and his house is just around the corner

Bon Voyage Meal Sunday night.

Last night we had a lovely meal out, enjoyed lots of laughs and nice food.

Hi folks,
It's a while since I've signed in which means I have been very busy.
As you know our passports have arrived, that seems old hat now.
I have booked several on shore tours when we are at various ports around the Adriatic sea.
Especially one at Dubrovnik which I am very excited about plus one where we see the original site of the first Olympics and the ruins of Ephesus as well.
Also, I think it is Katakolon something in Greece.
So, it will be very exciting.
Also Bari where there is amazing architecture and markets in Istanbul.
all sounds wonderful and definitely whets the appetite for travel.

I have upped the ante on my Italian lessons and have bought a months subscription to Babbel Italian which is a great online language tool.
We have booked 2 tickets to Billy Elliot which we will see at west end in London.
We will meet up with Sally as she begins her walk through Spain. She will come across to England to meet with us for a short time together.
It should be fun.
Chris has been in contact with his relatives at York and has found a long lost cousin too.
We plan a days outing with them around Harrogate.

Monday 2 - Saturday 7 September·Hampstead Heath

Check in 1pm to Airbnb at York on Saturday: 

Sunday 8^th visit a church visit relatives and check emails and look around the place  Maybe take in a nice walk or cycle etc.

Monday 9^th check out and catch train to Manchester Depart Aer Lingus 3.30pm arrive Dublin 4.20pm

Stay overnight at Hotel

Tuesday 10^th September go on 3 day rail journey

Viator Tours: Ireland -3 day cork, blarney etc 7am Dublin Heuston Station

Tuesday – Thursday night rail tour and stay overnight at Hotel and then depart for Rome

Friday 13^th September Depart Dublin Aer Lingus 8.40am and fly to London Gatwick arrive 10am

Depart London Gatwick 11.35am and arrive Rome 3.05pm

Stay overnight in Rome and do a tour.

Rome Tours: Early Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museum tickets 7.15 am

Name of group is: Rome open tours: hop on hop off in the morning.

Saturday 14^th Sep

Saturday 14^th – 21^st stay at Villa Adriana 3 in Cortona

Saturday 21^st – 27th ( 1 week cruise)

Friday 27^th Sep - Sunday 29th Airbnb in Venice – Dorsoduro 3257 Venice, Veneto 30123boat trip to Murano and               Burano see Venetian glass and lace etc
Monday 30^th Sep - Thursday October 3rd. Stay at Lake Como. 

Yet to be decided but I think train travel to Zurich and stay overnight and then catch the plane to Singapore and then back home to Adelaide
Friday 4^th October ^- depart Zurich and arrive in Singapore, stay for the day and fly out at midnight.

Saturday 5^th October-arrive in Adelaide at 9.15am!!!! Hooray we made it.

Introducing Chris Mussell

Passport has arrived, very excited, picked it up yesturday and voila I am free and on my way in a few months.

Sally and I have had a meal together and discussed meeting up in London.
So, on September 6th we will meet at Hampstead Heath.
